Letter From The President

Chief Chris Wilrye

Westlake Police Department

Chiefs,

My proudest accomplishment is winning the confidence of my fellow citizens and securing my election as Westlake’s Chief of Police in November 2014, followed by my consecutive re-election in 2018 and 2022. After graduating Westlake High School, law enforcement became my professional focus. I graduated from the 77th Basic Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy and continue to pursue numerous training certifications while accumulating 22 years of law enforcement experience. This has ensured that I have brought a “packed toolbox” with me to my position. I am a recipient of Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Officer’s Challenge Coin which displays going above the call of duty.
I have been married to my wife Shelly for 8 years. Our children and our grandchildren are a part of this community. My goal is to leave a true legacy for future generations of Westlake residents. Being a third-generation resident of Westlake, community involvement is very important to me. I feel the community deserves a face to the title of Chief of Police. It is not an uncommon occurrence to see me directing traffic in front of the schools to protect our youth as well as supporting our youth’s involvement in sports and other extracurricular events. I was a Big Brother/Big Sister Board Member to help secure the youth of Westlake and surrounding communities. I have been an active participant in numerous committees and served on numerous government boards to assist in securing the prosperity of my community.
I have been an active member of the Association serving as Sgt at Arms, Secretary Treasure, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President and now President of our great Association. Thank you for your vote of confidence and I pledge to do my best to keep our Assocation going in a positive direction.
